New year, new decade, new generation - allow me to introduce Abbas Glass. He's from the suburbs of Chicago and I think his footage pretty much speaks for itself. Since coming to SF last February he's definitely been getting it in and people have been taking notice. He's currently getting hooked up by Cruz Skateshop and getting flow from Street Corner and will have some footage in the upcoming Lowcard video. Being that he's accomplished all of that in less than a year, I think it's safe to say that this kid is on the come up and we should definitely keep an eye out for him.

48 Blocks: How old are you and where you from originally?

Abbas: I'm twenty one years old and I'm from Wachigan Illinoise.

48 Blocks: How long have you been skating?

Abbas: I've been skating for about eleven years now.

48 Blocks: How did you first get started?

Abbas: A couple of my homies used to skate back in the day and they always had boards laying around so I kinda just fell into it. Right off the bat I just loved it, so I never really stopped.

48 Blocks: Is Wachigan near Chicago?

Abbas: Yeah, it's the suburbs - like Lake County area.

48 Blocks: Did you used to go skate Chicago a lot when you were younger?

Abbas: Yeah, we used to take the train out there and skate for a couple of hours every now and then; but we'd usually just skate the spots around Lake County.

48 Blocks: So how was Lake County, was there a lot of stuff to skate out there?

Abbas: Oh Yeah, there was a lot of stuff. It was kind of rugged but we made it work. I had a whole bunch of friends that skated, they're not skating now but they were really into it back in the day.

48 Blocks: Did you have any sponsors out there?

Abbas: I used to ride for this company called Syntec that my homies had going, I don't know if they're still doing it now but they used to flow me some boards.

48 Blocks: Now you're living in SF, when did you come out here and what made you decide to move?

Abbas: I came out here in the middle of February. I had a couple of homies that were already out here holding it down. They encouraged me to come out here. I figured it's a new scene, so why not. I basically just wanted to do something different, I figured it'd be hella fun out here which it is and all the homies were just hyping it up.

48 Blocks: So who's been holding you down as far as sponsors out here.

Abbas: Pretty much just Cruz skate shop and Street Corner has been flowing me some stuff, that's about it.

48 Blocks: How'd you link up with Street Corner?

Abbas: My friend Gordon that's part owner of Cruz talked to Freddy and showed him some of my footage and he was hyped on it.

48 Blocks: So what spots have you been hitting up since you've been out here and which are you favorite?

Abbas: There's this marble ledge spot with marble manual pads on 16th and Deharo, I don't know how long it's been there.

48 Blocks: The Market Street benches.

Abbas: Yeah, it's pretty smooth. We'll go there every now and again. I used to skate 3 up 3 down cause it's just there, just skating down Mission you see it there and no one's trippin'.

48 Blocks: One trick that stood out to me in your footage was that switch 360 ollie over the pad at The Pier. As far as I know that's never been done before. Was that something that you wanted to do or was that something that when you went there you just thought "I think I can do this."

Abbas: My homie Waylon always wanted to film something there, he had never gotten any footage there so he was just like "yeah, I'd be down to film if you want to try something." I just started trying the switch 180 over it and it was turning more, so I was like "I might as well try a switch 360."

48 Blocks: Yeah, that was clean. Marcus did regular frontside 360 over it back in the day but I don't remember seeing anyone do it switch. Did you do any other tricks there that you have on ice for a video part - you dont have to give it away, just a yes or no is cool.

Abbas: Yeah, I got some more footage there.

48 Blocks: Sick. You actually won a contest that we had on 48 Blocks a few years ago. Back then the site was really small, how did you even discover that?

Abbas: Actually my homie showed me the site and I used to go on it a lot. Then he told about the contest a couple days before the deadline. He said "you've got a whole bunch of footage at this one spot - Engineering Building. I was like, "alright, we might as well enter." It was just a whole bunch of footage that I had, there's a lot of spots in that one vicinity - I mean hella spots, it's pretty dope.

48 Blocks: We had some legends like Rob Welsh and Henry Sanchez judging, did that get you hyped that they picked you as the winner?

Abbas: Oh yeah, I was surprised. I look up to those dudes, so I was surprised. I was hyped.

48 Blocks: What's your favorite trick to do just cruising around?

Abbas: Nollie Tre flips. I work on those, I just like having that trick.

48 Blocks: What's one trick that gives you hella problems?

Abbas: Regular tre flips. (laughs)

48 Blocks: Who's the normal skate crew that you go out skating with?

Abbas: I usually go out skating with my homie Aaron (Herrington), my homie Norris, EP, all the Midwest homies like Adam and Edgar.

48 Blocks: Are there any pros that you've seen in the city that you've tripped out on? Like when I first came out here and saw Mike Carroll, I was like "damn that's Mike Carroll!"

Abbas: Yeah, I saw BA when I was on the bus. He was skating in the middle of the street. I was like, "who is this tall as fool skating - then I was like oh shit that's BA right there!" It was just random.

48 Blocks: Do you skate transition, do you ever fuck with the park?

Abbas: I don't really skate that much transition, but I fuck with the park every now and then. I'm trying to get into it more.

48 Blocks: The homie Shawn said you pissed yourself on New years. What's the story behind that?

Abbas: OH YEAH! I was so drunk and I was trying to piss in this corner and I forgot to unzip myself and I straight up just started pissin'. I looked down and realized and I was like "Oh my god!"

48 Blocks: What did you guys get into on New Years anyways?

Abbas: We went to a couple of parties, I had a bottle of champaign on me the whole night. We were just drinkin' hella liquor and chillin' outside of Delirium. I kind of don't remember too much, but yeah it was fun.

48 Blocks: Any last words or shout outs that you want to say to wrap this up?

Abbas: Shout out to everyone that's helped me out. Big ups to all my homies in the Midwest, and big ups to all the homies out here.
