Anthony Williams is a straight beast. He’s put out more sick internet clips this year than some pros have in an entire career. He filmed his Berrics part in four days – I mean who does that?! The kid is on point. On top of that you can tell that Anthony definitely has a love of skateboarding and is in it for the right reasons. Currently, Anthony is back down in Atlanta filming for It’s A Crazy World – so be on the look out for that soon, until then peep the following interview.
48 Blocks: You're back in Atlanta right now after a stint in San Diego - what brought you back to the South and how long were you in SD?
Anthony: Yeah man, I came out to film for It’s A Crazy World as well as work on a few other projects that I have in mind. See my friends and family and most of all enjoy my southern comforts.
48 Blocks: Atlanta has been blowing up over the last couple of years with a few big names coming up out of there. What is the city like these days as far as spots, vibes, and people - and what was it like when you were growing up skating there?
Anthony: Yeah man Atlanta is crazy for sure! This place has a lot to offer as far as untouched spots and other crazy shit you may come across! Atlanta to me hasn't changed much other than the mass development that’s approaching, and the skating has always been real raw...you know what I’m sayin!
48 Blocks: I first remember you from Clyde Singleton's Minority Report video then a after that you started popping up in a lot of different places. Can you give us a brief history on how you got hooked up as far as getting coverage and sponsors?
Anthony: Oh you saw that video? Tight! Just skating - basically long story short it was a struggle, but I kept skating and everything else fell into place.
48 Blocks: You were on Mystery for a bit, how did you hook up with them and what was it like working with Black Box?
Anthony: I got hooked up by Mystery by meeting Drake Jones during a jam in Atlanta, and then ran into him again at Tampa Am and he asked me who I was getting gear from. Shortly after he started to send me packages. As far as living / skating at Blackbox, it was most definitely an experience, I'm glad to have had the opportunity - thanks to Drake Jones and Jamie Thomas.
48 Blocks: Recently you hooked up with I&I Skateboards, what do you guys have in store? Obviously Nyjah is amazing and you've also got Bay Area OG Richard Jefferson on the team.
Anthony: I&I is Nyjah's board company that he started, and basically it's all about positive vibes, great energy and the progression in this colorful world of skateboarding. I&I is about to show you the future yo! So make sure to stay tuned!
48 Blocks: There's been a lot of rumors and controversy about the Axion shoes relaunch, you are on the team. How are things shaping up and what are the new shoes looking like?
Anthony: Rumors? Controversy? That has nothing to do with me, however the shoes are dope as fuck, and I cant wait for the rest of the world to skate them!
48 Blocks: Your internet clips are comparable to Lil' Wayne's mixtapes - you put out a lot of heat! Do you just stack up a lot of footage or are you consciously trying to be as prolific as you are with online coverage?
Anthony: Weezy? Wow thanks! I just be skating and next thing you know cool shit like this happens.
48 Blocks: Speaking of internet clips, you recently got recruited at the Berrics - how did that go down? Don't seem like they turn the lights out for just anyone. Did you just start skating there and they asked you to do it? How long did it take to film that?
Anthony: That’s basically what happened, I was just skating the park, and one of the filmer's started filming , and towards the end of the sesh he was just like yo, we got some shit today wanna put something together? He asked me if I wanted to work on a recruits and that’s how that went down. Give or take, it took about 4 days to film. Thanks Steve & Eric for the love yo, I appreciate that.
48 Blocks: Talk about It's A Crazy World - the trailers have been tight and you are about to be featured in a new one. How's the part coming and what do you have planned for this video?
Anthony: It’s A Crazy World is a video that me and my homies are doing. It makes sense dosen't it? I mean it is a crazy world! I say it everyday, you see it everyday! It’s all around us, feel me.
48 Blocks: I was up on the message boards researching for this and some people were saying you have a "bad rep" and "called yourself the Jay-Z of skateboarding." What up with all that? Did you ever make the Jay-Z comment?
Anthony: Bad Rep? Weird, naw - I'm not too familiar with having a bad rep. I did not call myself the Jay-Z of skateboarding! However, I do admire his ethics.
48 Blocks: Being that you're from the South and have spent time on the West, what are the biggest differences in the two places for skating and for day-to-day life.
Anthony: The biggest difference between the South and the West Coast to me would have to be the weather yo. Like the past two weeks I've been here it was hot the first week then rained all the next week you know. As to where if you were in Cali, it would be like summer for the most part of the year. Skating too, I mean it's just two different place I guess..
48 Blocks: What's your next move? I don't get the vibe that you are chilling down in Atlanta for too long - all of your sponsors are on the West Coast. Do you have plans to come back?
Anthony: Yea mos def!
48 Blocks: You make gnarley tech moves look easy and also aren't scared to go big - that's always an explosive combination. Does either one come more naturally to you or do you feel equally comfortable with both?
Anthony: I like them both feel me, I enjoy spending hours learning new tech tricks just as well as I like tre flippin’ a dope set - dig. It's all skateboarding and that’s fun to me.
48 Blocks: What's in your current playlist right now - what were you listening to this summer?
Anthony: Everything from Jay-Z to Jimi Hendrix, Lil Wayne, Currency, Young Jeezy,
48 Blocks: Any good Clyde Singleton stories that you can share?
Anthony: Tons of funny stories!! HA – he’s sick!
48 Blocks: You were out in NYC with my homie Jabari Pendleton last summer, how was that trip and what was it like chilling with Jabs?
Anthony: Yeah, that trip was dope! Brooklyn son! Jabari was cool.
48 Blocks: If you weren't skateboarding, what do you think you'd be doing right now?
Anthony: I don't know man, Maybe tryna fly to the moon... Then past that! Deep into the Nebulas of space..
48 Blocks: Any last words or shout outs to wrap this up?
Anthony: It's A Crazy World also thanks to 48 blocks for doin’ this and thanks to all my sponsors, family, and everyone that’s ever helped me out!
