John Lupfer has been putting out some solid footage in the recent Stereo promos. He's got a smooth style good spot selection, so I'm sure we'll be seeing more of John in the future. In the meantime, peep this interview that Keir recently made happen.
Keir: Where are you now and who are all of your sponsors?
John: I was born and raised in San Diego and I still haven’t left. I ride for Stereo Sound Agency, Osiris Shoes, Ezekiel Clothing, Pig Wheels, and Utility Board Shop.
Keir: How did you end up getting into skating?
John: I got into skating around the end of elementary school by borrowing my friend’s older brother’s board and bombin’ hills on my butt.
Keir: What was the first video you ever watched?
John: I’m not sure what order it was in, but the first few videos I saw were The End, 7 Year Glitch, and Tactical Manual a local San Diego vid. Tactical Manual was rad because there were some spots from the little suburb I grew up in that I recognized so that got me hyped you know, just seeing some local spots in a video.
Keir: Who were the skaters you were into when you were younger?
John: Obviously growing up in San Diego I was stoked on all the dudes that came up or were coming up from around that area… J.T Aultz, Smolik, and Willy Santos to name a few.
Keir: How did you get on Stereo?
John: Cuong (The Osiris TM) gave my sponsor-me tape to Clint, and Clint passed it on to the TM and I got a call a few weeks later and that’s that.
Keir: What’s Chris Pastras like?
John: Haha, that dude is just funny in general, I can’t really think of any one specific incident but he’s just a rad dude to kick it with, always droppin some funny shit you know?
Keir: Have you seen the older Stereo vids, what do you like about them?
John: You know what, I’ve seen them now, but I never watched them up until after I was on the team. I was never really “in the know” on the mags and vids as a kid. Tincan Folklore was so dope though!
Keir: Where have you traveled to skate so far, which areas were the best?
John: I’ve actually been lucky enough to travel quite a lot of places to skate for my age… Hawaii, the dirty south, Arizona a few times, Europe, Canada, New York, and a few others. I’m going to say the most interesting places not just for skating but for everything else has been Moscow, Finland, and Berlin when we went on the Osiris trip over there. Definitely a different way of life over there.
Keir: What videos have you had full parts in?
John: I actually haven’t had a full part yet, but I’m in the process of filming a full part for the new Stereo Video. Before that, I’ve shared a part with Clint in the Osiris video, had some footage in the last two Stereo promos, and just random clips here and there.
Keir: Have you ever gotten arrested for skating or anything?
John: I’ve never been arrested for skateboarding, definitely got my fair share of tickets from it though. I haven’t really gotten myself into anything too deep due to skating though so that’s cool.
Keir: Whats the weirdest clip you've ever seen on Youtube?
John: Uh well. In the house I live in right now we have a tarantula and a scorpion in the same cage so last night we searched for some tarantula vs. scorpion videos to see who would win if they ever decided to turn on each other, pretty epic battles man, it could go either way.
Keir: What are you working on right now in skating?
John: Filming for the new Stereo vid, workin on a couple interviews for some mags, shooting photos as much as I can and just skating with the homies on the regular.
Keir: Ok thanks John, any last words?
John: Thanks to all my sponsors, family, and homies!
