"Out of the Box" is a new video by Charlie Church and Andy Pribulka featuring the next generation coming up in the Capital. It's local and underground...just the way we like it. Keir did an interview with Charlie Church and got a little insight into the making of the video.
K - Alright Charlie, what is all the hype about?
C - The video is called 'Out of the Box'. It is a video Smalls and I have worked on for about 2 years.
K - I know you put a lot of work in filming it, the video is a mix of the new generation of D.C. skaters, who all has parts in there?
C- Scott Luvison, Manny Law, John Franco, Andy Hart, Joey Dwyer, Nick Duclos, David Weitzel, George Hanuschak, Brendan Cathcart, Braden Cohen and Hans Kidd all have parts in the video.
K - Yeah, the diversity of the skaters in OTB is pretty impressive, you've got the new tech kids, the new gnar kids, a lot of the new styles coming out of D.C., its rad. So what was the hardest part of getting the video together?
C - During the making of the video, Smalls and I ran into all the usual problems such as broken cameras, lens hits, getting tickets, etc. After the video was done though, my external hard drive with the video on it died, so I had to get that recovered.
K - Who helped you to complete "Out Of The Box?"
C - Allen Danze helped me out a ton with this video, so go buy the 'Time Will Tell' video! I go to college with him so most of the time he was over editing with me. He also filmed a lot for the video and did the DVD authoring. Some other filmers such as Andrew Feldt and Sam Rothrock contributed a lot to the friend’s section. Brad Rosado also helped out a lot by giving the video exposure by putting it on www.theforgottencity.com.
K - No doubt, now where all is the video shot?
C - The whole video is basically filmed in DC, but we made trips to NYC, Philly, Richmond, and Baltimore.
K - What was it like up in NYC filming for OTB?
C - The NYC trip we went on was probably the most I have ever skated in a 2-day period. I think we skated for 17 hours one day or something like that.
K - The premiere of OTB was last week, everybody locally has basically just seen it, where is the video available right now?
C - The video is already being sold at Elite Board shop, Palace 5ive, and Fredskates so far. I would like to have it sold at all the local shops in the area and truthfully any other shop that is down, I just need people to hit me up to put me in touch with their local shop and thats it.
K - Yeah thats what this interview will help with, to all the people reading this, e-mail Charlie at outoftheboxvideo@yahoo.com to purchase a copy or to get your local shop to order copies.
C - Also, www.theforgottencity.com is going to sell it if Brad has not put it up already.
K - Definitely, also hopefully some of the mags will take notice of the video too. Now besides the main parts what else is there on the OTB DVD?
C - There is a friends section, an after credits filmers section, and tons of bonus features. Although that sounds like it would make the longest video ever, the video is only about 40 minutes running time not
including bonus, still pretty long...
K - Yeah, I guess with all those new spots you guys found, also I saw the bonus menu and it looked stacked. Alright Charlie, I think that will do it, the video itself will do the talking, have any thank yous?
C - Thanks to Smalls for doing the video with me. Also a big thanks to Allen for all of his help. I’d also like to thank Julia Compton, Brad Rosado, Keir Johnson, Greg at Elite/Palace 5ive, everyone with parts in the video, 48blocks, Feldt, anyone who filmed for the video and anyone who I forgot.
