Scotty Shwartz is an OG head that's been a part of the New York skate scene for years. He's currenty holding down KCDC in Brooklyn, so if you're in the city give him a shout. Alex Hansen caught up with Scotty recently and got the following brief interview.

Alex: You had a small speaking role in Larry Clark's acclaimed "KIDS" film. How did you pick up that gig and how what was it like working on that film?

Scotty: I was stranded in LA when they were organizing the cast for the movie. I saw Harmony (Korine) in L.A. lurking about. I had known Harmony from when everyone used to chill at Washington Square Park. I just said to him "what up, what are you doing in LA" He said, "I got this part for you in a new movie called KIDS." I just showed up for some audition and met Larry Clark. He was an old guy who was known to smoke weed and chill with all the skaters in NY at Wash Square. We filmed the movie so long ago I don't remember much but there was definitely a lot of weed and beer on the set at all times (laughs).

Alex: Can you name some of the heads chillen on the movie set?

Scotty: Justin Pierce, Leo Fitzpatrick, Peter Pici, Mike Hernandez, Javier, R. Torres, Billy Waldman, Jim Gordy. I kicked it with Jim after all the production stuff was done. That's how I got to meet the True Mathematics DC guys. Also Gary Smith,Geeze, was in it too. I had just seen him in SF chilling and then all of a sudden he's in the movie with us. I don't know what he's up to these days.

Alex: ABC skateshop was a short-lived store in the popular part of NY's East Village. Can you talk about your role in the shops development?

Scotty: ABC was funded by 2 old school musicians and the premise for the shop was anything goes. We didn't have clicks. Supreme was Supreme and we didn't want to compete. It was pretty laid back, we let kids hang out all day. We drank beer, traded product, which are not always the best business tactics. Basically, we had no image to uphold and the owners would party more than the skaters so it was all good.

Alex: There was a period where you just broke out to L.A. a few winters back. Everyone was just like "Scotty just got out of Queens and moved." was the reason for acting?

Scotty: I moved to LA for a brief period in 2005. I had a little money and I just said fuck it. I did a few auditions for commercials, but it was just enough for side money. On some auditions, I ran into Peter Smolik and Casey Rigney. I wasn't really trying to pursue acting so I was just skating in Venice a lot with Travis Graves, and a little bit with Malcom Watson, oh and Steve Olson at the Glendale Park. Everyone was there...Lance Mountain and Ron Chatman!

Alex: Presently you're holding down KCDC skateshop in Brooklyn, how's that?

Scotty: Working for KCDC is the best, dope parties, mini ramp, cool co-workers...it's the skatelife 100 percent.

Alex: Any plans for the winter?

Scotty: I'm gonna skate mini and hopefully a magic plane flight will come my way.

Alex: Which skaters are you feeling nowadays?

Scotty: Jim Greco, Billy Rohan, Torres, Bobby Worrest, and Amedeus from Queens

Alex: What about SF skaters?

Scotty: Lenny Kirk, Lavar, Sanchez, oh and Pat Washington!
